This build was based off t' Estes Der Mega Red Max kit originally created by Estes. Avast, me proud beauty! I be fortunate enough t' be able t' purchase a 4-in nose cone and body tube, which were available from their website in September 2023. Begad! I secured a plywood upgrade kit from Rocketry Works. Blimey! All t' other parts I had or made via 3D Printer.
10/01/2023:
I have decided t' cut t' bottom o' t' nose cone off and fit t' IPL ebay. This will also give me interior access t' t' nose cone t' include a counterweight system. T' top o' t' ebay sled has a hole for 1/4-20 all-thread that will allow me t' capture weights above t' ebay betwixt two nuts. Well, blow me down! This makes t' ebay weights adjustable in t' event I wish t' use a heavier motor/motor case. Begad! So crazy it just might work.
I created t' decals by scannin' t' waterslide decal sheet from a standard Der Red Max kit. I converted this t' SVG and imported it into Cricut Design Studio where I resized them (sort of) t' scale. t' black band around t' forward end o' t' body tube and t' squared-off crosses are spot on but t' WWI skulls and other bits were a bit large. Ya scallywag! I created text similar t' t' Top Secret font. Aye aye! See t' image below for a detail o' t' white and black. Ya scallywag! It is nay obvious how t' layer t' two colors but most o' t' time I started with black and laid down t' white on top since they were either cut t' fit or t' black was contiguous.
Before givin' t' launch report, arrr, I wanted t' mention that I was still tail-heavy. Even after addin' t' modified IPL nosecone avionics bay/sled. One o' t' mods I added be a 6mm hole at t' very top o' t' sled. Aye aye! I cut a piece o' all thread t' size where it would fit into t' tip o' t' nosecone. Ahoy! I then 3D printed three weights, 15g, 60g, and 120g for modifyin' and tunin' t' stability. Ya scallywag! I ended up usin' t' 120g weight (which was just over 100g in reality). This brought me stability t' 1.18 CAL.
T' conditions were perfect for rockets. T' weather be sunny, shiver me timbers, ~65 degrees F, with wind 2-4mph. Ya scallywag! I used an Estes altimeter since me Eggtime Quantum was lost in t' Cookie Monster crash. Blimey! I also employed t' Jolly Logic Chute Release with a release altitude o' 600ft. I added me onboard Runcam2 4k as well.
T' launch was picture-perfect. When t' rocket motor ignited, you could briefly see t' green glare from t' H250. Avast, me proud beauty! It punched into t' sky at ~ 90ft/sec up t' an altitude o' 1,068ft. T' deployment was nominal as was t' chute release. Aye aye! T' rocket landed about 30m from t' pad. Begad!
