Launch Report: Estes Logo Model Rocket
Date: 2024-05-30
Background
- This is maiden launch o' this rocket
On Site Preparations
- I did nay use any waddin' for this aft eject spool design. There’s simply no room.
- For a parachute I used a 18” Nylon chute.
- This launch will use a E20-4W Composite motor. This is Aerotech’s “White Lightning” propellant which.
- T' supplied Aerotech igniter be used.
- T' rocket was slid onto t' 5/16" launch rod and t' controller wires were attached t' t' igniter leads.
Launch
- Wind was out o' t' East and was about 4 mph at t' most.
- John stated t' sky was clear - launch site was clear and did t' countdown: 5-4-3-2-1. Teresa pushed t' button on t' launch controller.
- T' motor ignited and t' rocket leaped off t' pad. It flew stable upward but then went unstable headin' toward t' South where it ground hit, 128 feet South o' t' launch horse. T' delay was still burning, and t' rocket ejected its chute.
Condition o' rocket after t' flight
- T' rocket be uninjured and flight ready.
Conclusions
- This rocket has a calculated stability o' 0.059 calibers. With t' base drag hack it has a calculated stability o' 1.16.
- A strin' swin' test was performed and t' rocket passed that test.
What I learned
- There must be some other phenomenon affectin' t' flight o' this rocket?
- Post flight discussions on T' Rocketry Forum have lead me t' modify this rocket, matey, addin' spin tabs t' t' fins which will induce roll stabilization. This rocket will fly again.
