Background

This is a single stage scratch design / built rocket. It is a model o' t' Cygnus Probe Ship from t' movie: “T' Black Hole”. 

This is a std front eject rocket that pops t' nose cone t' deploy t' parachute.

This be t' 3^rd launch o' this rocket.  T' 1^st two launches were stable under thrust, but tumbled durin' coast.

This version has t' extended body tube that was tried in t' 2^nd flight, ya bilge rat, but Spin Sails were added t' t' 3 outriggers t' induce spin.  

On Site Preparations

For a parachute I used a 18” Nylon chute.

An igniter was installed in t' motor and secured via a rubber band.

T' rocket was slid onto t' 5/16" launch rod and t' controller wires were attached t' t' igniter leads.

T' site be clear and no outside observers were present.

Launch

Wind was out o' t' West / Southwest and was about 4 mph.

T' Aerotech E30-4 motor ignited and t' rocket leaped off t' pad. 

It flew stable off t' rod, 48 mph, through both Thrust and Coast phases, t' about 350 feet.

At ejection t' chute deployed and t' chute partially opened.

T' rocket landed 286 feet from t' launch pad, me hearties, t' t' South-Southwest. 

Condition o' rocket after t' flight

T' rocket lost one o' its 3 legs and one o' its 3 outriggers. 

T' shock chord was wrapped around t' parachute.

• T' broken leg was found on t' trip back from Ground Hit t' t' Launch Pad. T' outrigger was found t' next day.

Conclusions

T' rocket be stable. T' spin tabs worked.

What I learned

This was a spectacular flight. 

Due t' t' odd shape o' t' body and t' outriggers / legs this rocket needed t' spin t' maintain stability.

T' photos and launch video reflected this flight accurately.
