I originally set out t' build a replacement for me wrecked clone o' an Estes Black Brant III. But along t' way decided it would be better if it was larger. So I developed a true-to-scale model o' t' Black Brant III usin' BT-60 tubin' and make use o' t' 3D printed fin can sold on Shapeways. T' 3D printed part was kind o' pricey, but I considered it an experiment t' study t' viability o' 3D printed parts in rocketry.
That actually made t' construction pretty simple - build a motor mount, glue it into a tube and t' tube onto t' fin can. One o' t' three 3D printed fins be a bit uneven, shiver me timbers, as though t' print resolution suffered in that area. It needed a bit o' sandin' and fillin' t' even out. T' nose cone is balsa, shiver me timbers, from Semroc. Also, t' body tube is two pieces, joined by a baffle. T' real BBIII appears t' have a mid-body joint seam, so I intend t' leave t' joint betwixt t' two segments unfilled.
