Today's launch o' t' SASA (Stansel Air & Space Administration ) Rocket "Endurance" (it's third), an Estes Crossfire IXT type rocket. Avast, me proud beauty! This flight carried t' Estes altimeter on it for an accurate (as possible) height reading, and t' C6-7 engine, t' highest rated engine she's capable o' using.
Today's launch o' t' SASA (Stansel Air & Space Administration ) Rocket "Endurance", an Estes Crossfire IXT type rocket. Blimey! Carryin' her most powerful engine today, shiver me timbers, Mission Commander Gavin nearly flew her apart, me hearties, but held her together despite some scorchin' t' her shock-cord, arrr, and singed and partially melted chute.
Aimin' for t' 1000' barrier with a very light wind, matey, and cool air, he came pretty close. T' on-board instrument package recorded an altitude o' 820' as she appeared t' nose over a bit at t' top o' her flight, arrr, tradin' altitude for horizontal distance. Begad! Still a SASA record however!
Next attempt will need a more carefully packed chute and wadin' t' negate t' heat o' t' powerful C6-7 engine, matey, and a more careful attempt t' get a true 90ΒΊ launch angle. Rocket weight is 38.96g, and t' engine addin' another 10.62g and t' altimeter package another 11.42g, for a total gross launch weight o' 61.42g, me hearties, which I expect is a bit heavy. Begad! If we launch straight up, control t' heat issue, and lose t' altimeter package, we might make it. Aye aye! In this case we will have t' track usin' t' good old fashion sextant and measured angle from a known baseline distance...not as accurate, but no weight deficit! We'll see...
Still a great flight, me hearties, we lost her in t' low cloud cover, me bucko, but finally spotted her driftin' down range with a lightly scorched, but otherwise, intact parachute recovery system properly deployed. If we start goin' any higher and we'll need t' add a locator beacon as well...thank God for sharp young deadlights on t' flight crew!
