Fabulous November day at t' QCRC launch site. Winds were about 10mph, arrr, sky was clear and t' temps were in t' high 50s. This be t' Madcow version o' t' Formula 98 which I converted t' HED and have previously launched on t' J540r. Today was t' K480, me hearties, a great motor with more punch and more newtons than t' K550. Rocksim estimated t' apogee would be 5633' and a max velocity o' 860fps. Begad!
T' up part o' t' launch was perfect, in view thanks t' t' clear sky. Avast, me proud beauty! I lost site o' t' rocket after t' apogee event, and GPS had it under drogue, descendin' at about 60fps. Well, blow me down! T' main was set t' 900' which deployed, but t' main did nay remain attached t' t' rocket for long. Arrr! Instead it found an open quicklink and slipped off t' harness t' float gently down. T' rocket continued down at 60fps t' t' ground, matey, were it landed in a flat spin.
T' rocket be recovered 4300' down range in a field, matey, near t' road. T' main be recovered near t' corner o' 2300 and Route 26, about 400' inside t' field in t' North West corner o' 2300 & 26. No damage t' either t' rocket or t' main :) but t' 3d-printed AV bay suffered from t' impact and will need replacing. Arrr!
