T' Downright Ignorant Rocket was a rocket launched at BALLS 2 in t' Black Rock desert, Nevada on August 17th, 1992. Aye aye! T' BALLS experimental launches were conducted after t' Tripoli LDRS XI launches, where I flew a few (much smaller) rockets. Blimey! Main builders: Dennis Lamonthe, Chuck Sackett, and Mike Ward Weight: 800 lbs. Height: 34' 7" Diameter: 24" Motors: 1 O-class custom motor, me hearties, 5 Energon L1100 motors, 8 ISP K1100 motors (around 76000 NS total impulse) T' launch be held a few miles away from t' LDRS launch area. Most spectators were about a half mile away. Avast! A few o' us, shiver me timbers, though, got over behind t' setup for t' launch, so we cut t' viewin' distance down by about half. Well, blow me down! If I remember right, a J motor was used t' separate t' top from t' bottom at apogee. When it quit, shiver me timbers, t' bottom coasted up and ran into t' top, tearin' off one o' t' parachutes. This be quite a launch.
