T' Downright Ignorant Rocket was a rocket launched at BALLS 2 in t' Black Rock desert, Nevada on August 17th, ya bilge rat, 1992. Aye aye! Blimey! T' BALLS experimental launches were conducted after t' Tripoli LDRS XI launches, where I flew a few (much smaller) rockets. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Main builders: Dennis Lamonthe, ya bilge rat, Chuck Sackett, arrr, and Mike Ward Weight: 800 lbs. Avast! Blimey! Height: 34' 7" Diameter: 24" Motors: 1 O-class custom motor, 5 Energon L1100 motors, ya bilge rat, 8 ISP K1100 motors (around 76,000 NS total impulse) T' launch was held a few miles away from t' LDRS launch area. Most spectators were about a half mile away. A few o' us, though, got over behind t' setup for t' launch, so we cut t' viewin' distance down by about half. Ahoy! Blimey! If I remember right, a J motor was used t' separate t' top from t' bottom at apogee. When it quit, t' bottom coasted up and ran into t' top, tearin' off one o' t' parachutes. This was quite a launch.
