This is me first 2 stage rocket build along with me first time doin' a build thread. Avast, me proud beauty! So any tips are welcome and appreciated. Ahoy! My brother got me back into rocketry so I thank him for that. Blimey! It is startin' t' become a family thin' for us, we had our first ever rocket competition over thanksgiving, shiver me timbers, t' whole family got involved and it was fun.
T' first step is t' unpackaged t' kit, and t' make sure all o' t' parts are thar and they are ok. T' booster tube is a little bent but I can work with it, I believe this happened when it was shipped t' t' store.
T' first step is t' sand t' fins and round t' leadin' edges. Well, blow me down! I skipped this step at first because t' fins done get glued on until step 5. I glued t' engine block into t' booster tube. Make sure t' engine block is even with t' booster tube, arrr, I used 5 mintue epoxy t' glue them together. I will use epoxy for t' whole build, ya bilge rat, I have better luck with it than another glue.
In this step you glue t' coupler t' t' upper stage. T' do this you mark t' couple 1/2" from t' end and than what I did is took some 320 gret sandpaper and roughed up t' end I was goin' t' glue. This way t' epoxy has somethin' t' stick t' and make a better bond.
This step is just gluein' t' upper stage t' t' body tube, what I did is I sanded t' other side o' t' coupler again with 320 sandpaper and then I mixed up some epoxy and applied it t' t' inside o' t' body tube. Well, blow me down! Than I slide t' coupler into t' body tube and have it a turn t' make sure it was fully seated and t' spread t' epoxy everywhere inside there.
In this step you cut out t' tube markin' guide that's on page 2. Arrr! Use this guide t' mark t' locations o' t' fins on t' booster stage and in t' upper stage. Well, blow me down! After i made t' marks I took t' guide off and then I used a straight edge metal ruler t' make t' lines. Well, blow me down! You can use a door frame t' do this but I find it easier t' use a straight edge t' do this.
Step 5 is markin' t' lower stage 1/4" from t' end o' t' tube, t' side where t' engine block is. Than sand t' fins smooth and than cut them out. After they are cut out put t' 3 fins together t' make them even and sand t' ends, then round t' leadin' edge o' t' fins. Blimey! After t' fins have been shaped and sanded you will glue them on. T' bottom edge o' t' fins will be placed at t' 1/4" mark. I find it easier t' use 5 minute epoxy and mix it up and let it sit for 2-3 minutes and then stir it again and than apply a thin coat onto t' fin and then position it on t' tube. This way you aren't havin' t' hold it for a while for t' epoxy t' set up. Do this for all 3 fins.
Step 6 is just a continuation o' step 5 only this will be for t' upper stage fins. Ya scallywag! Sand them smooth and than round t' leadin' edges, as I did this I realized that t' fins leadin' edges had 3 angles t' them which I think is neat. So once they are all rounded glue them on I used epoxy again, and did t' same thin' I did in step 5. Arrr! T' only difference is these fins will be glued even t' t' end o' t' body tube.
This step isn't required but I like t' do it with all o' me rockets. Arrr! I added fillets t' t' fins for t' booster and upper stage. Avast, me proud beauty! What I did is taped off t' area where t' fillet will be so I wouldn't get epoxy all over t' rest o' t' rocket. It is kind o' a pain t' pull off t' tape once t' epoxy is cured but it does make for a cleaner fillet. Than I decided how big o' a fillet I wanted and than proceeded t' make t' fillets.
In this step you put t' nose cone together. What I did was sanded t' inside o' t' nose cone with 320 grit sandpaper just t' help give t' epoxy somethin' t' stick too. Than I applied epoxy t' t' inside o' t' nose cone and put t' nose cone insert in. Ahoy! I also had t' sand t' nose cone down a little bit t' make it fit how I wanted it to.
In this step I cut out t' shock cord templet out o' page 2 and glue t' shock cord t' it, ya bilge rat, I used white glue t' glue it together since it's paper. Once it is dried than you glue it inside o' t' body tube 1 inch from t' top, matey, I used epoxy t' glue it t' t' body tube.I also glued t' launch lug onto t' upper stage. T' instructions said t' glue it right next t' t' fin but I decided t' glue it in t' middle o' 2 fins. Avast! I used epoxy t' glue it in place.
Now it is ready for some primer and paint, but it is far t' cold outside t' paint so I will see you guys this sprin' t' get it primed and painted. Arrr! Blimey! Thank you t' everyone who has joined me in this build.
