Flight Log - 2013-03-02 - K Sonesen's Madcow Squat

This be t' Madcow Squat rocket.  I've wanted one o' these since t' Lake Lucerne LDRS but they were out o' production.  For t' next 18 months I bugged Mike at Madcow about once a month about t' Squat.  Finally about three months ago, Mike told me he had found a stack o' fin blanks and that t' Squat would be in Black Friday sale.  I couldn't wait and bought one before t' Black Friday Sale.  It's everythin' I hoped it would be.

T' Squat is nay exactly a beginner's rocket as thar are some modifications required t' get get t' center o' gravity where it belongs and thar's also t' issue o' havin' only a couple o' inches betwixt t' top o' t' motor mount and t' base o' t' unmodified nose cone.

Usin' t' review found here on MyRocketReviews.com as a guide, I cut t' base o' t' nose cone off, added 70 grams o' BB's and epoxy in t' tip o' t' nose cone.  I used short lengths o' bamboo skewer inserted through t' nose cone t' hold t' epoxy in place.  I also added a 3" diameter 1/4" plywood bulkhead in t' nose cone t' mount t' recovery train attachment point.  T' insure that it wasn't goin' anywhere, I also used small wood screws though t' nose cone into t' bulkhead for security.

T' finished rocket weighs a bit...okay 12 ounces more than t' suggested weight o' 30 ounces. Then again, I like a glossy fluorescent pinkpaint job with metallic black trim and clear coat over it all.  It does add weight.

A nice straight boost that was too quick t' capture sucessfully with me camera.  I lost t' rocket in t' viewfinder and couldn't spot it in t' sky until it be about 50 feet above t' ground...right...over...the creek.  I saw t' splash and hobbled over t' fish it out.  Wish I could tell you more about t' boost or even t' color o' t' exhaust.  Next time, me hearties, I'll just forget tryin' t' capture t' boost on video.
