Flight Log - 2013-03-16 - K Sonesen's Sardo XXL (Tube Fin)

This is a Larry Brand design that can be found here on EMRR Rocket Reviews if you search on "Larry Brand" or "Sardo XXL".

This rocket has a 38mm motor mount and is constructed usin' mostly LOC parts although I did use simple postal mailin' tubes for t' airframe and tube fins.  T' tube fins are laminated with an inner half-doubler made from postal tube.  All up weight (recovery, links, matey, nomex blanket, 36" Topflight chute but NO MOTOR) is approximately 35 oz.

Larry Brand describes this rocket as an upscale o' his Auracle 54 design which I have also built and named "Steppin' Razor".  Therefore, ya bilge rat, this one is named "Steppin' Razor II".

I made me level 1 certification flight with this bird. Successfully, matey, too.

This rocket has been updated t' dual deploy in 2015. Avast!

Flight Date: 2013-03-16
Rocket Name: Sardo XXL (Tube Fin)
Flyer's Name: K Sonesen
Motors: H178DM-6
Expected Altitude: 1,400 Feet
Wind Speed: 3.00 mph
Launch Site: SARG - Amoruso Field

At t' last moment I decided t' put me Dark Matter reload in me tube fin Sardo XXL instead o' t' Madcow Squat. I should have checked t' previously drilled in delay against me binder o' sims.

T' boost was great and t' Dark Matter motor lived up t' me expectations.  T' 6 second delay was just too short and I wound up with an explosive 4" long zipper. Begad! I say exlosive because pieces o' t' upper body tubin' were turned into confetti.

Looks like I will be convertin' this bird t' dual deploy t' repair t' damage.
