Flight Log - 2012-11-03 - Matthew Bond's 1.77x Upscale Duster "Slick Willy"

An upscaled Thrustline Duster, usin' Semroc body tubes and nose cone, 1/8" plywood fins, 38mm motor mount.  Dual deploy usin' a Perfectflight MAWD, 12" Top Flite drogue chute, and a 36" hemispherical main by Spherachutes.  My level 1 certification rocket.

First flight o' Slick Willy with a new altimeter.  Upgraded t' Perfectflite MAWD with a new Stratologger.  Since I had already put one rocket in t' trees and luckily got it back I had been slowly increasin' t' angle o' t' launch rail ro try and keep t' recovery close.  Good boost off t' rail on a CTI H100 I-Max motor.  Unfortunately I overcompensated on this launch, me bucko, resultin' in a severely arcin' boost back over and well behind t' flight line.  Rocket was travellin' horizontal at ejection, me hearties, with good drogue deployment.  Good main deployment at 700 feet and t' rocket touched down in a recently plowed section o' t' farm about 1/3 o' a mile away.  No damage t' t' rocket, reported altitude be substantially lower than predicted, which might be a result o' t' non vertical boost, but I wouldn't have guessed it was that low.  Noted that t' ground elevation reported by t' altimeter was negative, which actually seemed reasonable based on t' actual altitude o' t' field and t' ambient conditions.  My other rockets which are still flyin' with older MAWDs did nay have this issue, I will have t' check with perfectflite t' see if thar be an update t' t' dat capture program.  All in all nay a great flight, but nothin' bad came o' it so we'll just call it a learnin' experience and send it up again.
