This is an Estes Phoenix model rocket, fired from a scratch-built barge pushed by t' Dumas electric tug "Farwell." T' rocket, heavily damaged from prior misadventures (see our earlier videos), shiver me timbers, was t' be put out t' pasture in this launch, shiver me timbers, by firin' it into Peconic Bay without a recovery system (parachute). Aye aye! Two cameras were installed in a custom-built waterproof capsule in its midsection, though only t' nose camera functioned properly. Begad! Four other cameras captured t' launch from multiple angles on a warm December afternoon durin' t' closin' days o' 2011. T' our great surprise, Phoenix glided several hundred feet in near-level flight after engine cutoff, and survived t' violent impact with t' water with hardly a scratch. It was recovered immediately after landin' - along with its cameras. Ya scallywag! Far from bein' destroyed, arrr, t' missile now sits in t' RapidNadion storage yards, dry, strong, me bucko, and ready for another maritime launch!
