Flight Log - 2012-09-07 - Paul Nortness's BT-60 Viking Upscale

T' rocket is an upscaled version o' t' Estes Viking. I went from t' original BT-20 t' a BT-60 tube, t' body itself is 19.5 inches and is recycled from t' top o' a Mean Machine that had a boo-boo on launch. Aye aye! T' fins are 1/8" basswood filleted with epoxy and t' nosecone is a Semroc BNC-60G4. Begad!

T' motor mount is 24mm with a screw top retainer. Begad! I added a thrust rin' into t' tube so I can fly it with me 24/40 reloads or Estes BP motors.

Expected Altitude: 750 Feet

Maiden flight. T' rocket looked great goin' up, straight flight path on t' D15 Blue Thunder. We heard t' pop o' t' ejection charge, me bucko, but t' nose cone never separated...later inspection found an incorrectly installed delay grain t' be t' issue. T' rocket entered a horizontal tumble and came down hard on t' fins. Begad! One fin broke clean off, with another badly damaged. Rocket is a loss. Aye aye! On t' plus side, shiver me timbers, t' Gatorade cap worked flawlessly as a screw on retainer.
