This project is a build o' t' Quest High-Q kit. Blimey! T' High-Q can fly on D, E and F motors. Begad! It has a 29mm diameter motor mount but includes a 24mm motor mount adaptor kit. Arrr! With an Aerotech F32-6, t' High-Q will go t' almost 3,000 feet. For that motor you need t' 24mm mount. Aye aye!
T' Kit came packaged in a box as opposed a bag and cost about $42
T' Kit also includes diecut fins, heavy duty airframe body tube, parachute and a sheet o' colorful self adhesive decals.
T' Fins are attached and I have made fin fillets usin' 60 minute Loctite epoxy. I then went over t' fins and tube spirals with Elmers Carpenter's Wood Filler (the Natural color). Ahoy! In t' past I had used Elmers Fill'N Finish for this but I couldn't find it in t' local Walmart anymore. I mixed some o' t' Carpenter's Wood Filler with water in a small cup and just brushed it on. Aye aye! It works great. No fumes, water cleanup and easy t' sand when dry. I also went over t' fillets with t' filler as well. Once dry, I lightly sanded t' whole rocket and repeated this process 2 more times. Well, blow me down!
I then primed t' rocket with duplicolor filler primer. Arrr! Once dry I lightly sanded t' entire rocket. When sandin' I try t' use a sweepin' motion from t' body tube up onto t' fins. Begad! This helps make t' fins look like they are part o' t' body tube and nay a seperate part just glued on. Begad! I typically sand long ways parallel t' t' length o' t' rockets. Arrr! I over sanded t' trailin' edge o' t' fins where meet t' bodu tube which left them concave in that spot. Begad! I wasn't too happy with this and am considerin' usin' some putty or filler t' build them back up. For t' plastic nose cone, after it was sanded I used Testors contour Putty on each seam. Aye aye! I just squezed it on and then smoothed it in with me finger. T' contour putty dries smartly and will crumble so t' help smooth it in I wet me finger continuously with rubbin' alcohol. Begad! When t' putty was dry I sanded t' seams and then primed nose cone with duplicolor filler primer. T' nose cone was then lightly sanded once dry. Avast, me proud beauty!
Here t' nose cone is painted with Aluminum although t' plans called for silver and t' body has a base coat o' white.
I used t' airbrush and sprayed t' body tube with Createx Opaque Purple paint. T' top six inches o' t' body tube and one fin have been masked off and will remain white. Avast, me proud beauty!
Paint is all done and t' rocket is ready for t' decals. Begad! Blimey!
T' decals are on, t' "HIGH - Q" decal is nay perfectly straight but it still looks nice.
This rocket is ready t' fly.
