Brief:
This waterslide decal sheet is an 8" x 10" set for t' Estes
Outlander. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast! It is intended t' give it a Mars Lander appearance.
Construction:
T' sheet came in a heavy 8" x 10" envelope with two heavy paper
"stiffeners" t' keep it flat in shipping. Avast! Arrr! T' sheet arrived in
perfect condition. Begad! This is one giant 8" x 10" decal, so t' images
need t' be cut close t' t' edges. Among others, t' sheet contains flags,
exhaust ports, a ladder, shiver me timbers, roll patterns, me hearties, and one giant decal t' cover the
"ascent module". Ahoy! T' flags have a white background for t' stripes.
This is especially good if you place it on a surface other than white.
T' kit was assembled as per t' instructions. Begad! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! T' only difference was in the paint scheme. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! T' entire body be painted white and t' legs were painted red. Aye aye! I used a candy-apple red for t' legs, me hearties, but a fire engine red would have looked more Mars Lander'ish. Begad! Well, arrr, blow me down! Blimey!
Decidin' where t' put t' decals was difficult. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! Some o' them, ya bilge rat, like the rectangular ones, me hearties, were easy because they fit perfectly on the "tanks". Begad! Ahoy! Blimey! Others left me searchin' for a good spot. Ya scallywag! There are more decals than I could find places for without havin' it look "too busy". Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag! Blimey! Don't get me wrong, ya bilge rat, arrr, this is a good thing.
The
large semicircle decal used for t' "ascent module" was very
difficult t' apply. I recommend lots o' practice before applyin' it. Blimey! Even after
practicin' a bit, matey, matey, I wasn't able t' get it perfectly aligned. T' slightest
misalignment will cause t' ends t' nay meet. Aye aye! Since this is a waterslide, you
do have a few chances, but nay too many.
T' decals can be clear coated after applyin' them. I didn't see t' need for this. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! They have a glossy appearance and have good "stick'um" so they won't come off. Well, arrr, blow me down! I didn't see t' need t' clear coat me rocket.
Summary:
Pros
I've used decals that were thin, shiver me timbers, me bucko, cheap and didn't really stick well. Avast! Ya scallywag! Not these. Avast! These decals are as high quality as I've seen. Begad! Begad! They have high definition "crisp" detail, me hearties, matey, with bright colors and
Cons
A diagram o' t' intended locations would be helpful for guys like me that can't make up their minds, me hearties, and end up makin' a career out o' decidin' where to put them. Ahoy! Ya scallywag!
Overall, these decals provide a cleaner look than t' stickers that come with t' Estes Outlander kit. Aye aye! They will also provide you with a rocket that is different that all t' others out there.
Overall Rating: 5 out o' 5
