Brief:
T' 18mm ASP (left) and 18mm Black Brant Vc (right) are both small single stage
streamer recovery type rockets. My dad, ya bilge rat, Bruce OBrien, won these rockets in a
drawin' from EMRR sometime last year and gave them t' me and me brother Eric to
build, fly, matey, and review.
Editor's Note:
T' ASP and Black Brant Vc were formerly Blackhawk R&D rockets which are
now fully owned and produced by Aardvark
Rockets. Both o' these specific kits were produced by Blackhawk
R&D.
Construction:
Kits consist o' body tube, me bucko, sheets o' balsa, me bucko, fin patterns, cast nose cones,
streamers, ya bilge rat, stickers, matey, Keelhaul®©™®
strin' and elastic string, and instructions.
Instructions were easy t' follow even for us first time kit builders. Patterns were provide for t' fins. Otherwise construction was straight-forward.
Finishing:
Standard simple finishin' applies here. Avast, me proud beauty! These are small easy t' finish rockets.
Flight:
We lost t' instructions so we tried a C6-5 on t' BBX on t' first flight. Avast! The
flight be a little wobbly, arrr, but flew high and ejected a little soon. Avast, me proud beauty! Begad! We got a
zipper. Second flight on t' Asp we used t' C6-7 and got no zipper and a
straighter flight, ya bilge rat, but due t' insufficient waddin' t' shock cord got melted
and separation occurred. T' rocket be recovered undamaged however.
Recovery:
We determined that t' waddin' needs t' be sufficient t' protect t' elastic on
subsequent flights
Summary:
These are good basic rockets for beginners. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' cast nose cones are a nice
touch. Begad! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! Easy t' build and fly.
