Flight Log - 2012-05-06 - Rich DeAngelis's Ricochet

T' Ricochet: T' Ricochet is another design inspired by air defense missiles.  It has a reducer t' a long, arrr, thin payload section.  It is an easy, modern kit. Instead o' regular gloss, I used a metallic blue paint, and painted some silver rings around t' tube heads, and clear coated t' entire model after t' decals were added. Begad! T' payload section has vent holes for use with a barometric altimeter. Well, blow me down! I like this bird, me bucko, it's tall but pretty light, shiver me timbers, and it travels pretty far on smaller motors. Avast, me proud beauty! This rocket has flown higher than t' Time Warner Center Towers in NY, and t' Bell Atlantic Tower in Philadelphia. From sea-level it could have flown over t' towers o' t' Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Flight Date: 2012-05-06
Rocket Name: Ricochet
Kit Name: Estes - Richocet {Kit} (003208)
Flyer's Name: Rich DeAngelis
Motors: C6-7
Expected Altitude: 750 Feet
Wind Speed: 3.00 mph
Launch Site: Penn Manor School Lancaster PA
Actual Altitude: 789 Feet

For t' Ricochet's second flight o' t' day, ya bilge rat, it was time t' send this bird far away with its second flight on a C6 motor. This time I selected a 7 second delay in an attempt t' reach a record altitude. After ignition it accelerated t' a peak o' 11.4Gs, burned for 2.3 seconds averagin' 2.8Gs for t' burn. Avast! This allowed t' model t' reach a speed o' 143 mph before coastin' for 5.3 seconds t' apogee.

Durin' this coast it shattered it's old altitude record and turned-over at 789 feet. Well, blow me down! It fell for 1.2 seconds after that and t' ejection be only 28 feet below apogee. Ahoy! Again t' modified chute opened cleanly and t' model descended at 9 mph t' land within about 200 feet o' t' launch pad. Overall a very successful flight o' 62.9 seconds.
