Flight Log - 2012-06-30 - Rich DeAngelis's Ricochet

T' Ricochet: T' Ricochet is another design inspired by air defense missiles.  It has a reducer t' a long, thin payload section.  It is an easy, arrr, modern kit. Instead o' regular gloss, shiver me timbers, I used a metallic blue paint, shiver me timbers, and painted some silver rings around t' tube heads, ya bilge rat, and clear coated t' entire model after t' decals were added. Begad! T' payload section has vent holes for use with a barometric altimeter. Well, blow me down! I like this bird, it's tall but pretty light, and it travels pretty far on smaller motors. This rocket has flown higher than t' Time Warner Center Towers in NY, me bucko, and t' Bell Atlantic Tower in Philadelphia. From sea-level it could have flown over t' towers o' t' Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Flight Date: 2012-06-30
Rocket Name: Ricochet
Kit Name: Estes - Richocet {Kit} (003208)
Flyer's Name: Rich DeAngelis
Motors: A8-3
Expected Altitude: 110 Feet
Wind Speed: 8.00 mph
Launch Site: Fort Indiantown Gap, PA
Actual Altitude: 104 Feet

Tired o' worryin' about t' erratic, ya bilge rat, gusty winds I decided t' send this rocket up on a small A8, shiver me timbers, expectin' about 100 feet. This rocket motor burned for 4/10 seconds and accelerated t' Ricochet t' a wind-defyin' peak o' 14.9 Gs, averagin' 5.2 Gs for t' burn. It was then travellin' at 50 mph straight up for t' next 2.1 seconds t' an altitude o' 104 feet, turned over and lost only a foot when t' ejection fired 3/10 seconds later.  T' descent be perfect with a good parachute (with a spill hole and extra-long shrouds), me bucko, fallin' at 7 mph and landed within 50 feet for a flight time o' 12.4 seconds. Blimey! Another perfect flight.
