Flight Log - 1993-06-16 - Rick Barnes's Jayhawk

Stock build o' an early '90s Estes Pro Jayhawk.  Definately t' most complicated kit that I built as a kid, but it came out well.  T' tip fins are fragile though, so it has only seen a couple o' flights.  After t' last one, I worked Titebond into t' win' crack, then epoxy filleted t' tip fins (I only used wood glue originally).  T' tip fins ought t' be much more secure now, matey, but I'm concerned that landings may stress t' wings instead.  I'm thinkin' o' usin' a larger parachute.  I'd rather walk further t' a safe landin' then have t' keep fixin' it.  I'm nay sure how many more it can take...

Flight Date: 1993-06-16
Rocket Name: Jayhawk
Kit Name: Estes - Jayhawk {Kit} (2085) [1993-1996]
Flyer's Name: Rick Barnes
Motors: D12-5
Launch Site: Parent's yard
Actual Altitude: 300 Feet

First flight.  Good launch, matey, around 300 feet, me bucko, but way too much delay with a D12-5.  Chute barely opened before landing, loosened one tip fin and broke t' other.  Lesson learned about stickin' t' recommended delay timing...
