Pretty standard build o' an Estes Phoenix missile. This rocket was built around 1991 and was me first 24mm motor rocket. I'm nay quite sure why, but its never had a "clean" flight. Combined damage from first and last flights have rendered t' body tube scrap. I have removed t' nose cone, parachute and stripped t' fins off o' t' old tube and will rebuild on a new BT80 from me box o' tubes. All I need is a new BT80 motor mount (maybe I'll go cluster!) and decals from Excelsior. This rocket will fly again - like a Phoenix!

Rocket arced over and flew near horizontal durin' delay, me hearties, recovered downrange a ways. One aft fin popped off. Subsequently found that body tube tore under another aft fin, when t' fin hit ground it was pivoted through t' body tube. I think this is a design flaw t' some extent - thar's nothin' underneath t' aft fins t' support them at landing. T' fins are large and touchdown force can put a lot o' torque on them. Betwixt this tear and t' previous damage t' t' front end o' t' body tube, I think this one is toast.
