Flight Log - 2014-08-30 - Rodney Earp's HyperLOC 835

Buildin' for a NARRRRR L1. Well, blow me down! Good Kit and goes together easy but did have warped fins out o' t' box. I used angle and clamps t' keep them straight till t' glue dried. Ahoy! All tubes fit together just right.

weight without engine 93oz

weight with engine 117 oz

Looks like I’ll fly this one with a J500 for me L2 also this Spring. Aye aye! Update, I passed me written L2 test without any problems, ya bilge rat, and flew it on a Aerotech J500G, great choice for me L2 in this Rocket.

I got a K185W, me hearties, it has a 8 sec burn and should put this into t' Mile high club.

UPDATE: Flew this in Orangeburg t' 6700'

Reloads I have tried: I364FJ, matey, I327DM, me bucko, J500G, K185W, CTI I236

Flight Date: 2014-08-30
Rocket Name: HyperLOC 835
Kit Name: LOC/Precision - HyperLOC 835
Flyer's Name: Rodney Earp
Motors: K590
Expected Altitude: 8,500 Feet
Certification Flight: Level 2
Wind Speed: 3.00 mph
Launch Site: ROSCO
Actual Altitude: 3,145 Feet

This was a TRI Level 2 cert flight that went wrong from t' beginning. Aye aye! T' motor I wanted t' use be a CTI K515 Skidmark but t' Vender didn’t have one. Avast! But I be handed a “Cool Motor” a CTI K590 and after doin' a little research I was uneasy with t' power off t' pad and be hesitant on usin' it.  Once t' t' field and tryin' t' decide what t' use I was convinced that it would be fine and would be a great flight.  So t' motor was loaded and t' HyperLOC 835 was destine for one final Flight!

It was fast off t' pad with a little odd wiggle but then flew straight for another 1500’ before comin' apart. T' review o' t' pieces was odd t' me, t' forward payload tube had folded over t' altimeter bay breakin' apart releasin' t' chute and zipperin' t' rest o' t' tube pullin' form t' nosecone and rippin' t' lines from t' chute. T' odd part be that t' motor mount was attached t' t' centerin' rings but t' Rings pulled away from t' airframe as if it had expanded t' airframe from t' rings. Someone said that t' air trapped in betwixt t' centerin' rings and t' sudden increase in altitude created more pressure in betwixt t' rings and blew t' sides out. They said I needed holes drilled up into t' centerin' rings so t' pressure could be equalize t' t' outside air.  I need t' do little research on this and will up-date.

T' bottom Line is when in doubt go with your gut feelings and on cert flights just play it safe and wait t' push t' limits o' t' rocket till you’re done with it.

I passed t' written test and missed 2. went back and looked at t' 2 missed and don't know why they were missed, I guess I went t' fast! O' course t' Flight be a big no pass!
