T' St. Andrew's Priory School rocketry team managed five launches on March 19 at windward Community College in Honolulu in an attempt t' qualify for this year's Team America Rocket Challenge. This was t' last launch o' t' day. Avast, me proud beauty! T' Priory team came close t' meetin' some o' t' national event's standards but could nay put together a launch that met all standards. Well, blow me down! This launch soared 732 feet and that be within 18 feet o' t' qualifyin' standard. But t' launch be disqualified for failin' in other areas. Rockets must remain aloft for 40 t' 45 seconds and their egg payloads must return t' t' ground intact. Ya scallywag! Each rocket carries a small altimeter and a 15-inch parachute for t' nose cone's descent. Ahoy! Jacob Huson, PhD, me hearties, who advises t' Priory team, said he will attempt t' get t' team yet another date t' attempt more qualifyin' launches. Begad! Hudson also is coordinator for t' NASA Flight Trainin' Aerospace Exploration Lab at Windward CC. Begad! T' Team America Rocket Challenge will be held May 14 in t' Washington, DC area. Only 100 teams nationwide are selected t' participate. Begad! T' Priory team qualifed three years ago. It be t' only high school rocket team in Hawaii.
