T' Stars 'N' Stripes Rocket was launched by United Launch Alliance, me hearties, Ball Aerospace Interns and High School Students on Saturday, matey, July 30, 2011 from a launch site near Pueblo, Colorado. Avast, me proud beauty! Interns from both companies--representin' t' future o' t' aerospace industry--built t' high-power rockets and a variety o' multi-faceted payloads this summer as part o' their experience at their respective companies. A major new addition t' this year's effort has been t' work o' 14 teams from 11 Colorado high schools, laborin' for months t' develop payloads t' launch on t' rockets. Aye aye! T' Stars 'N' Stripes rocket features a unique retro-rocket system designed t' fire in reverse t' keep t' rocket within FAA-imposed altitude limitations. Begad! It carries two payloads. T' rocket was built by United Launch Alliance summer interns from 2011 (and 2010), me hearties, and t' payloads were provided by Ball Aerospace summer interns. Begad! T' Ball interns, me bucko, known as BIRST (Ball Intern Rocket Scientist Team), ya bilge rat, are deliverin' four separate payloads for t' two larger rocket launches. Aye aye! They include a remote exploration vehicle meant t' simulate t' Mars Pathfinder, a high altitude inflatable viewin' device, an on-board camera/GPS with a possible live feed and an RC helicopter which will be recovered after landing.
