We started buildin' t' Estes "TAZZ" (short for Tasmanian Devil, perhaps?).
Not shown in t' first few steps be t' sealin' o' t' fins.
T' fins were sanded with 220 grit sandpaper and then sealed with sandin' sealer and are now bein' sanded for t' first time after t' sealer has dried.
This will be repeated, usin' finer and finer grit paper until t' desired finish is achieved.
After t' fins were sanded, shiver me timbers, a second coat o' sealer was applied.
As this second coat o' sealer was drying, we began t' construction o' t' motor mount assembly.
Not shown in this build thread be t' attachment o' t' green centerin' rings and engine hook.
Those were done in a previous step and we forgot t' take pictures.
Today we got t' nosecone glued in and made some modifications...
There is a plastic rin' near t' rocket motor end o' t' body tube. We thought this might bind up on t' launch rod, so we attached t' launch lug t' a scrap piece o' balsa, creatin' a small standoff.
T' "hinges" were plastic tape that we didn't care for, matey, so we opted t' use model airplane hinges instead. These were glue on with medium viscosity superglue and seem t' be very well attached.
A test hinge was used with this same method and when we tried t' do a "destructive test" on this hinge, it ripped off parts o' t' balsa, itself, arrr, indicatin' a sufficiently strong bond.
