Maiden flight o' me scratchbuilt upscale Estes Solar Warrior. Construction was with Madcow 4" cardboard tubing, ya bilge rat, fiberglass nose cone, Madcow avbay, and Midwest 1/4" plywood sourced from Tower Hobbies. T' rocket has a 54mm motor mount, dual Missileworks RRC2+ altimeters, and a Recon 50" parachute for t' main. Decals by Stickershock and t' harnesses are OneBadHawk. Finished weight is 9 pounds 4 ounces, length is 66", and I'm runnin' two 2-56 nylon shear pins on t' nose cone. Maiden flight was at Tri-Cities Rocketeers field near Pasco, me hearties, WA on 9/9/17. I used an Aerotech J350W and was expectin' t' reach 2,000'. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' rocket had an excellent boost, ya bilge rat, and t' altimeters worked perfectly, however t' main chute stayed wadded up and never inflated. T' rocket landed pretty hard, but fortunately t' sod field is relatively soft and damage be limited t' a small wrinkle in t' body tube, me bucko, which I am in t' process o' repairin' with some fiberglass. Overall I'm very pleased with this rocket and am lookin' forward t' flyin' it again soon.
