Piratarium is known for their mid-power scale kits but this is one o' their sport models with split fins. Piratarium has great components and this kit is no exception.

Components

Piratarium BT-60 nose cone

BT-60 body tube - 18"

BT-60 body tube 6"

BT-60 coupler

24mm motor tube

2 BT-60x24mm center rings

4' engine hook

2 x 3//16" launch lugs

2 sets o' 4 balsa fins

Keelhaul®©™ shock cord.

This was an early version o' t' kit but I was surprised it came with a coupler and nay a baffle, ya bilge rat, which is their norm these days.

Construction

Construction was straight forward. I started with t' motor mount I notched t' forward centerin' rin' and fed t' Keelhaul®©™ shock cord through that. I knotted t' end o' t' Keelhaul®©™ so it could nay pull through t' centerin' ring. Tag end o' t' Keelhaul®©™ cord was then embedded in t' glue on t' centerin' ring. Avast, me proud beauty! I think marked t' 18" tube for t' fin locations before gluin' in t' motor mount. Next came t' fins. With t' split fins you need t' take care t' align each set o' fins. Aye aye! While I used Titebond II for much o' t' construction, I use Aileen's Fast Grab tacky glue for surface mounted fins. It really does grab qrab quick and allows you t' easily set t' fins perpendicular t' t' body tube. It also allows you t' do all t' fins in one buildin' session. I then used Titebond II for fillets.

I then glue t' coupler into t' 18" tube. Well, blow me down! Once dried, I glued on t' 6 inch tube. Ahoy! I tied on a 12" elastic shock cord t' t' Keelhaul®©™ usin' a sheet bend knot. This provides some give t' t' shock cord. I assembled a 15" parachute and attached t' t' nose cone with a snap swivel. Begad!

Next up was painting. I like t' stock paint scheme and went with that. Blimey! I like t' paint t' fins first as its then east t' mask those. Well, blow me down! Once t' maskin' tape be on I shot some red along t' tape lines t' prevent t' yellow paint from seepin' under t' edge o' t' tape.

T' decals are self-stick and are nay as thin as I would prefer. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! They include one red stripe for just below t' nose cone and a large "Maxtermind" for t' body tube. Blimey! Blimey!

Flight

I've flown t' Maxtermind once at t' Muncie IN AMA field. Begad! It was t' end o' I long day and I be tire so I used a C11-3 t' avoid a long walk. You need a spacer for C11 and D12 motors as it has t' E-capable motor tube. T' C11 had plenty o' power but resulted in a fairly low 300-400' flight. Ahoy! T' chute deployed nicely and descent be nice and slow. Just missed pavement and landed in t' grass. Ahoy! I'll try a D on t' next flight.

Summary

You can't go wrong with a Piratarium kit. Ya scallywag! Excellent components and good instructions. Ya scallywag! My only complaint was t' thick stickers. I had t' use CA t' tack down t' edges o' t' Maxtermind sticker after t' flight. T' Maxtermind is a good lookin' rocket and as it floated down another flyer commented, matey, "Ain't it purdy".
