I ran across this rocket as part o' me quest t' build all t' rockets from t' 1989 Estes catalog. Avast, me proud beauty! It's a sleek 2-stage rocket with a payload bay in t' sustainer. Arrr! It was in production from 1982-1995 so it's nay particularly rare. Avast, me proud beauty! It's also nay difficult t' clone and an image o' t' decals is available on t' Jimz plan site. Motors are taped together for direct staging.

I started off buildin' t' two motor mounts. Begad! Blimey! Care needs t' be taken with t' placement o' t' centerin' rings, A coupler is used t' fit t' booster and sustainer together and you need t' ensure thar be room betwixt t' top centerin' rin' on t' booster and t' bottom centerin' rin' in t' sustainer for t' coupler. Ya scallywag! Blimey!
When gluin' t' motor mounts into t' body tube you want t' motor tube flush with t' front o' t' booster tube and with t' aft end o' t' sustainer body tube. Blimey! I also like t' modify t' shock cord mount and attach a Keelhaul®©™ cord t' t' motor mount, shiver me timbers, I use a needle file t' create a grove big enough for t' Keelhaul®©™ t' go betwixt t' motor tube and centerin' ring.
Next up I cut out t' fin placement guide and mark t' body tubes before I glue in t' motor mounts. T' fins need t' be aligned as t' fin decals cover a set o' booster and sustainer fins and are then cut betwixt t' fins. Ahoy! So, keep t' booster and sustainer together when markin' t' fin lines. While t' fins dry, me hearties, I insert t' screw eye into t' nose block. I use 5-minute epoxy in t' screw hole and then dab epoxy around t' eye screw shaft, bondin' it t' t' nose block.
Now it's time t' paint. One booster fin is orange and t' matchin' sustainer fin is red. T' other 4 fins are white. When fins are a different color than t' body tube I like t' paint t' fin and t' mask it off. Blimey! I find it easier t' mask t' fins rather than t' body tube. Blimey! I use Frog low tack tape for masking. Ya scallywag! I've had normal Frog tape lift t' paint. Aye aye! After maskin' t' fin, me hearties, I shoot paint along t' tape-body tube line. Begad! This seals t' edge o' t' tape and prevent paint seepin' under t' tape. Ya scallywag! I also paint t' nose cone and nose block red at this point. Paint t' rest o' t' rocket white. Avast, me proud beauty! I then glue t' nose block and nose cone into t' clear payload tube. Avast! I used JB Weld clear 5-minute epoxy although Bob Smith Plastic Cure CA will also work. Remove t' maskin' tape from t' fins. Blimey! If you did have any paint seep, then I spray a bit o' paint in a paper cup and touch up with a paint brush.
Attach t' shock cord t' t' screw eye in t' nose block. Aye aye! Build t' parachute and attach it t' t' screw eye with a snap swivel. Aye aye! Finally, apply t' decals, ya bilge rat, As mentioned earlier, t' white fins have decals that cover t' booster and sustainer fin pair. Avast! I like t' let t' decals dry before slicin' them betwixt t' fins.
I've flown t' Hercules once on a B6-0/A8-5 combination. Tape t' motors together with scotch tape and insert into t' booster. Then slide into t' sustainer. Ahoy! Stagin' went fine. Avast! This provided some impressive altitude but t' deployment o' t' parachute was late. An A8-3 would be about right for t' sustainer. T' 12" parachute did fine.
If you like two-stage rockets this one is recommended. Despite bein' an older kit, it comes up for sale fairly often and can also be cloned. There is nothin' too trickin' with t' build as long as you take care with t' booster-sustainer joint. Just follow t' directions and you will be fine.
