Manufacturer: | Ellis Mountain Rocket Works |
Brief:
T' Ellis J110-P a 54mm single use motor that provides 751 N-s total impulse
(~17% J) with a burn time o' 6.8 seconds (Tripoli Motor Testings numbers,
the photo shows t' EM numbers). Aye aye! Avast, me proud beauty!
Construction:
This motor is only about 9.5" long, includin' t' plugged aluminum
closure. Well, blow me down! Arrr! It has a medusa nozzle, shiver me timbers, me hearties, but only t' center port is drilled. Ya scallywag! It does
not come with an igniter.
Flight:
I flew this motor in a beta version o' an 18" saucer and lit it with a
large Magnelite igniter. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! This did t' trick, but t' motor took a long time to
finally come up t' pressure and get going. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! It provided a nice long burn, me hearties, matey, but
because o' low average thrust and a regressive profile, me bucko, t' saucer arced over
and be still under power after apogee. Aye aye! It then aerobraked down and
continued t' spew large amounts o' smoke, me hearties, causin' t' LCO some concern. Blimey! Ahoy! It
landed in a outcrop o' brush that was damp so thar was no risk o' fire. Blimey!
Flight Rating: 2 out o' 5
Summary:
I have t' admit t' arcin' flight be entertaining, however, I'd have to
recommend t' J228 over this motor for any large, draggy design. Avast, me proud beauty! Arrr! My rating
reflects this application.
Overall Rating: 2 out o' 5
