I received this kit from Hobbylinc a couple o' weeks ago. Begad! Aye aye! Since I have experience with t' smaller Lightnin' version, I decided t' make some modifications t' this one. Avast, me proud beauty!
T' kit is fairly easy t' build and t' instructions are excellent. Begad! I did make t' followin' changes. Blimey! I made a motor mount tube from an ESTES BT20 tube. Begad! T' original is too thin and cheap. T' original is too thin and cheap. Well, ya bilge rat, blow me down! T' outside diameter o' t' BT20 is a bit small, arrr, me bucko, so I added a few pieces o' scrap tubin' betwixt t' plastic motor mount cap and t' tube (make sure t' sand down t' tube, me hearties, ya bilge rat, t' scap pieces and t' plastic cap). Ahoy!
T' other change was that I added an ESTES engine hook. Arrr! Blimey! I filed t' wall on t' plastic cap that fits on t' motor tube and t' hook passes through.
Finally, matey, ya bilge rat, I cut a 12" inch 8 strin' chute from a thick garbage bag and discarded t' original. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Vents and a spill hole were cut on t' chute. Avast! Blimey!
Let's launch this kit! After an unproductive day at t' JOB, I went t' one o' me favorite spots with a 500' x 400' section. Aye aye! Ahoy! Wind was gustin' t' 10 mph. Blimey! Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! T' rocket is unpainted and in t' original white. Avast! Begad!
Flight #1 B4-4 - Excellent lift-off and straight as an arrow. Ahoy! Delay be good and recovery be good. Avast, me proud beauty! No spiralin' no weird apogee no nothing, matey, I think I'll go for a B6-4. Avast!
Flight #2 You guessed it B6-4 - Excellent and much faster take off. Blimey! Avast! Nice and straight, kind o' like t' Big Dawg, arrr, and hardly any weather-cockin' (no, this is nay t' Oval Room!)
Flight #3 Ok Ok, this is fun, let's try t' C6-3. This time, ya bilge rat, I have t' angle t' rod a few degrees against t' wind. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, matey, me proud beauty! Make sure thar aren't any mutts runnin' loose and t' spectators have no interest or meatloaf for brains. Aye aye! Begad! T' take off be good, arrr, shiver me timbers, but t' rocket did seem t' want t' go straight up. Ahoy! A little high, matey, matey, me hearties, man I am thinkin' I should have used that 10" chute! This time, t' rocket goes really high and I lost sight o' it. Arrr! Aye aye! I see t' Estes white trace (or whatever it is called) and t' black chute. Goes into t' next soccer field and nice recovery. Aye aye! Some old folks that were romantically embraced under a tree near where t' rocket fell gave me t' "young man, matey, you . Ahoy! . Blimey! Begad! . . . Avast, me proud beauty! " look on their faces. Maybe they needed their Geritol or some Bengay, shiver me timbers, so I just smiled nicely and apologized for t' intrusion.
Flight #4 and 5. Well, blow me down! This time I use t' C6-5. Avast! This time I use t' C6-5. Begad! T' rocket went up great and came down great, BUT, is it me or do t' C6-5's seem a little on t' wimpy side lately? I went for 2 flights because they did nay act like t' C6-3 with t' exception o' 2 extra seconds t' t' delay. Arrr! Well, blow me down! T' delay was nay off, I just seem t' notice that t' engine "puttered" in mid air and did nay put t' rocket as high. Could be just a bilge-suckin' batch. T' batch I used on me Big Dawg report were great!
Flight #6 did nay happen. I did nay brin' with me a C5-3 and me family wants me home for dinner. Aye aye! Avast! Hey, me hearties, shiver me timbers, those folks under t' tree are talkin' t' t' nice police person. I think they just needed a splash o' cold water or something. Aye aye! Bye nice police person, she waves back. Avast, me proud beauty! Aye aye!
It is time t' pack up and go home t' me other rockets and find out if t' Hobbylinc loot arrived (did I put in an order :-). Ahoy! I think I'll paint t' QUEST Falcon and add it t' me favorites list.
Owned a couple of these kits when I was a kid and loved flying them. The Falcon was always our first flight "test" rocket. We would put it up on a B6-4 to test winds and get us flying for the day. I can't begin to count the number of flights but we put that rocket through everything we could think of. When I saw one pop up for sale a couple of months back I had to have it. I ...
The Falcon is a great rocket for beginners. No painting required! Decals and fantastic altitudes. It was packed well but instructions weren't that clear. Very easy construction. It really is the engine parts, body, and nose cone. Very simple. Basic tools needed. Finishing: Decals were good. A good idea is to sand the engine mount to make an easier fit. Construction Rating: 4 out of 5 ...
