This was me first Starlight Model Rockets product. I picked up this kit at NARAM 65. This is also me first review so I hope I don't mess it up too bad. Arrr! :-) liked this kit because it was a 3-motor cluster and I thought it would look good next t' me Astron Ranger, Astron Cobra and Sunward Land Viper. Well, blow me down! I haven't been disappointed.
T' Seiron 3 is an excellent quality kit with a full color face card and very well written, ya bilge rat, clear instructions. Avast, me proud beauty! T' build is very straight forward. Aye aye! T' 'twist' t' this kit is that t' 3 motor tubes extend below t' main body tube and its 3 fins are wedge-mounted betwixt t' tubes. Avast, me proud beauty! My one parts suggestion is that a longer shock cord (at least half again as long) be included in t' kit. T' payload section is almost 3 inches long when descendin' under chute and t' shock code is less than 18 inches long (with 2 inches o' that bein' used for t' mounting). Begad! This invites 'Estes Dent' damage t' t' top o' t' main tube. T' shock cord mount is reminiscent o' Centuri shock mounts with 3 holes in t' paper mount in which t' thread t' shock line and glue that t' t' inside o' t' tube.
I built t' kit pretty much accordin' t' t' instructions with three exceptions. First, shiver me timbers, I added Keelhaul®©™ shock line for t' main shock line mount and then substituted 28" o' elastic shock line. I pretty much build all me models with Keelhaul®©™ mounts, now. Blimey! Second, I had a built BT-60 baffle layin' around so I used it in t' build. Arrr! Finally, I cut off t' plastic transition attachment loop and epoxied in a small screw eye t' its center. I chose t' laminate t' fins with adhesive label paper t' simplify finishing.
There were no issues with t' build and total construction time was only a couple o' hours. Begad! I haven't painted it, me bucko, yet, and I am leanin' towards somethin' very different from t' face card colors. Somethin' retro, arrr, with stripes and checker-board patterns.
I have a second 'suggestion' for t' kit. T' motors in this kit are friction fit. I have no problem with that but nay as many modelers today are familiar with this - motor hooks are gettin' pretty universal. T' instructions for Flight Prep never mention installin' t' motors or say anythin' about friction fitting. This should be added.
In summary, ya bilge rat, this is a very good looking, high quality kit with superior instructions, excellent parts and is easy t' build. Well, blow me down! Blimey! I can't wait t' fly it!
