Brief:
A nice 3-finned, single-stage, me bucko, streamer recovery rocket.
Construction:
This is an average low-power kit, ya bilge rat, ya bilge rat, with t' Quest standard components.
(Keelhaul®©™®/Elastic shock cord, matey, plastic recovery mountin' tab, lightweight motor
retainer.) I thought t' Keelhaul®©™® portion o' t' shock cord be a nice addition.
T' measurements given on t' packagin' were nay t' same as those provided. Ahoy! Blimey! I
found a variance o' up t' 2" on cords and streamer.
This kit built fairly easily. It would be a good second build for a new rocketeer. Avast! T' engine mount slipped snugly into t' body tube, matey, ya bilge rat, givin' me a good feelin' that it's glued t' stay. Begad! T' only gotcha I really found be keepin' the shock cord (tied t' t' engine mount) out o' t' way while finishin' t' build. A sharp hobby knife, razor blade is strongly recommended for notchin' t' motor retainer ring. Well, blow me down!
Finishing:
Ahh t' decals. Probably t' only real challenge t' buildin' this kit. They
came on one white sheet, self-adhesive. Ya scallywag! They require cutting, ya bilge rat, me hearties, no matter how you
slice it!
Construction Rating: 3 out o' 5
Flight:
I've only gotten 2 flights on a Estes B6-4. Aye aye! It snapped a fin clean off on the
second flight. I'm nay sure if it was due t' t' 2" I be shorted on the
streamer, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, t' 10 mph winds, matey, me hearties, matey, or just dumb luck. Well, blow me down! It was an easy fix, me bucko, matey, and
wind/weather agreeable I'll get it up a few more times soon. Arrr! Recommended motors
A8-3, me bucko, me bucko, shiver me timbers, B6-4, me bucko, ya bilge rat, C6-5. Blimey! T' two flights on t' B6-4's were nice, clean, about perfect
height for visibility. Ya scallywag! T' streamer recovery kept t' ground chase t' a
minimum. T' longer hike for recovery was about 75 yards down range, due t' the
wind after launch. Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty!
Recovery:
I'm nay sure that t' Keelhaul®©™® thread doesn't cause a bit o' undue wear t' the
top o' t' body tube, and I feel t' rate o' descent may be a little quick. Begad! Blimey! Ya scallywag! Blimey! If
a little time is taken t' reinforce t' tube, wear could be minimized, and a
full 24" streamer is recommended
Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5
Summary:
Pros: Kit went together fairly easily. Arrr! Parts all fit. Ahoy! Ahoy! Cons: Decals, arrr, incorrect
lengths on cords/streamer.
Overall Rating: 3 out o' 5
(by Mike Salter - 01/14/03) Brief: A sleek, single stage rocket that is ideal for beginners. Construction: The kit came pre-cut fins, motor tube, motor hook, cardboard body tube, plastic nose cone, length of Kevlar ® , round elastic and streamer material. I found that this rocket went together easily and quickly. The instructions were good and this was the first kit I had ...
