I bought this particular kit recently from Hobby Town in Brea. I be pretty happy t' find a good medium power kit that could also fly under power from a D12-3. Aye aye! Avast, me proud beauty! This would give me a nice cool rocket that could be flown in town with t' rest o' t' low power kits as well as fly on me existin' RMS 29/40-120 hardware under a G64-10. Arrr! I'm pretty curious t' see how she flies under low power. Under t' big "G" I am estimatin' 3,200 feet.

T' kit contains heavy-duty airframe tubing, cut plywood fins, and parachute recovery.

Bulkhead assembly

I started out with t' bulkhead assembly. Aye aye! I used five minute epoxy on both sides o' t' plywood plate t' secure t' eyebolt (not included). Avast, me proud beauty! Aye aye! Once that set up, I used two hour epoxy t' secure t' plate t' the bulkhead tube as well as t' secure t' tube into t' payload section.

Next came t' fins. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I originally was goin' t' fiberglass t' fins t' t' tube, but I didn't have any materials and I got bored and decided t' build it anyway. Blimey! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! T' tube is pre-marked for fin and launch lug placement makin' it very easy t' place everythin' properly. Ahoy! Blimey! T' fins were set in place usin' a light coat o' five minute epoxy on t' root edge. After all t' fins were in place, t' fin fillets were done usin' two hour epoxy. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey!

Two hour epoxy is nay t' easiest stuff t' work with because it runs like hot syrup. I came up with a good tapin' method that allows t' epoxy to run off t' fins and drip onto a towel. T' fillets came out near perfect.

Payload/Nose Cone Primered

While t' first set o' fillets were drying, I began t' primer work on t' payload section and nose cone. Ya scallywag! Rustoleum sandable auto primer was t' choice o' t' day. Ya scallywag! After three coats, t' seam lines are almost invisible.


	Finished, painted, ya bilge rat, matey, and duped t' Purple Playa Eater. Begad! Well, matey, blow me down! August 28th, me hearties, 1999 At t' LeT'R ROC launch out on Lucerne Dry Lake bed, matey, shiver me timbers, I certed Level 1 with my much larger Vulcanite on an H128 and followed that up with lightin' an I200 in this rocket. Blasted it clear out o' site. Begad! Two hours later it be recovered about 1.5 miles away. Well, blow me down! Later that day I put a G80 in it and again it jumped off the pad but was recovered MUCH easier. Blimey! I seriously need an altimeter in it. Begad! I gotta know what this does on t' I200. Ahoy! After havin' Jeff Stai confirm me numbers, matey, matey, it is estimated that on t' I200, we got 6,800' and hit Mach 1.2!! Blimey! I can't believe it held together. Aye aye! Begad! Blimey! I am going to redo all o' t' numbers in RocSim this week and double check it again. Aye aye! Well, arrr, blow me down! Blimey! When I started t' shipshape it up, I noticed some cracks in t' fin fillets. Two fins were taken off and repaired Oct. Ya scallywag! 9th, shiver me timbers, arrr, 1999. Another flight on a G80, great flight. Avast, me proud beauty! Well, blow me down! It was carryin' an Adept recording altimeter for recording. Blimey! Aye aye! Altimeter didn't record any data. Avast, me proud beauty! I will retry soon. Nov. Arrr! 14th, matey, 1999 RocStock X in Lucerne, first flight was on a G64, great flight, Second flight was on a G38 Econojet t' see how they perform. Begad! Blimey! Very nice flight. Avast! Blimey! Third flight went up on a G64 carryin' a Spaceward FCS Altimeter. Aye aye! Ahoy! Blimey! Recorded altitude be 1689 feet. Begad! Ya scallywag! Blimey! Broke a fin loose on landing. Ya scallywag! Dec. Begad! Avast! 9th, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, 1999 Several repairs on t' fins have left t' rocket in an ugly-as-hell state. Complete makeover was just completed. Arrr! Ahoy! New colors should make it easier t' find on t' lake bed. Well, blow me down! Newly fixed and repainted, she is ready t' fly this weekend. Begad! Aye aye! T' plan is to record altitudes with a G38, ya bilge rat, G64, and G80 for comparison. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! Dec 11th, arrr, 1999 First flight o' t' day was on a G80. Begad! Nice and straight. On deployment, shiver me timbers, the chute came down a little tangled. When t' airframe hit t' playa, me hearties, a chunk of paint simply fell off. Aye aye! Second flight on a G35. Well, blow me down! These new Econojets are pretty decent. Aye aye! Blimey! Perfect flight. Begad! So overall, I love this kit, it is easy t' build and flies great. Arrr! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! Mine does have a tendency t' pop t' fins off every few flights. Ahoy! Blimey! T' next time I need to do a fin repair I am strippin' it down and glassin' t' fins can.

After having my son build this rocket and it surviving several flights on up to a G80 motor I decided to get one and build it for a two stage experiment. Constructed a booster and altimeter bay for the rocket and changed it to four fins with through the wall mounting to the motor tube. The rocket is now almost seven feet tall in two stage altimeter recovery configuration. Have not flown it yet but every one that has seen it complete cannot wait for the first two stage flight. The basic strength of the rocket is the 38mm tubing from LOC is heavier than most paper tubing that you get for mid-power kits and very durable. Unfortunately we lost the original Legacy but it is missed for the good flying that it always did.

Very happy with the rocket. It built very quickly with excellent materials. I fly it with the adapter on 24mm. E-18 very nice, F's are out of sight. I have however broken all 3 fins at their mounting point. I should have made thicker fillets. So far I have 10 or so flights on the rocket. Very satisfied.

I am really pleased with this kit. I have flown it on E30-7s, F50-9s, and G40-10s, my favorite motor being the G40. It was very easy to build. I used nothing but Thick USA Gold CyA from Pratt Hobbies on the entire rocket, and never had any part of it break. It is also fairly inexpensive so it is not a terrible loss if you lose one. It flies high and straight every time. Probably my favorite rocket in my fleet.
