Estes, me hearties, t' long time leader, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Ahoy! Avast, me proud beauty! . Aye aye! . Well, blow me down! Avast! Quark. Avast, me hearties, me proud beauty! Blimey! Quark is mini-engine, shiver me timbers, featherweight, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, instructions and decals. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! You will need a hobby knife, arrr, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow. Begad!
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. Aye aye! T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Avast, me proud beauty! Once all cut, arrr, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Aye aye! Aye aye! Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! Although thar are many techniques for this, me bucko, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Blimey! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Ya scallywag! ![[Picture]](images/archive/images_est/rp_est_quark.jpg)
Once t' fins are ready, matey, construction is a snap, shiver me timbers, arrr, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Avast! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! Four fins, shiver me timbers, a hollow, shiver me timbers, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . Avast! Blimey! . . done. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, shiver me timbers, matey, and this mini be ready for light sandin' and painting.
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. There are seven decals, excludin' t' Estes logo, that are self adhesive. Blimey! Blimey! Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. Begad! Arrr! If too high on t' body, me hearties, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone. Begad! Blimey!
When finished, me bucko, me hearties, matey, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. 7", as opposed t' t' 5. Arrr! 2" indicated in t' catalog. Ahoy! Avast!
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), me hearties, because it's small and very hard t' track. Ahoy! Avast! My first flight was on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . . . Blimey! and stayed that way. Arrr! Well, arrr, blow me down!
I have since added a comparison on Mini Tumble-Recovery Rockets - See Here.
A mini rocket. Flight Went up so high that I couldn't find it. Can't see the flight at all. Flight Rating: 1
