T' initial concept, arrr, rendered in Rocksim..

T' rocksim export, ya bilge rat, next t' a picture o' t' actual Rocket

I tested several battery configurations t' determine t' lightest possible reliable combination. Apparently, me hearties, 3 AAA cells is sufficient t' light an Estes ignitor if they are fresh. Blimey! I was also testin' t' perfectflight timer that will be used t' ignite t' sustainer(I hope)

T' humble beginnings o' t' booster, matey, me bucko, pretty simple, matey, a bulkhead placed in t' bottom o' a short piece o' fibre glass tube, matey, with a short piece o' coupler t' attach it t' t' sustainer. 5 minute epoxy holds it all together...

Wow, a picture o' t' fin placement template! I bet this one gets deleted too! Well, since it is here, shiver me timbers, I measured t' circumference o' t' tube(OD), Divided by 3, and marked a pice o' paper in t' appropriate locations, the marks were then transfered t' t' sustainer, and t' booster, t' located t' fins and t' booster motor tubes..

T' almost finished booster...T' motors(24mm) will be retained with maskin' tape, shiver me timbers, and use a maskin' tape thrust rin' as well. T' booster has 3 24mm motor tubes, matey, and should provide enough power t' get it off the pad safely. Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag! T' nose cones will be attached with 12" nylon cord scavenged from ear plugs.

All put together..You can see t' sustainer motor assembley next t' it, shiver me timbers, wow huh!

This be t' 24mm sustainer motor mount. Aye aye! Ahoy! Blimey! As it is aft eject, matey, matey, it is removable. Well, blow me down! Well, blow me down! Blimey! You may notice t' clips on the bottom, hopefully they will carry t' current which will light t' sustainer motor. Aye aye! Blimey! Blimey! At apogee, t' engine assembly will be ejected, me bucko, pull t' chute out t' bottom, and carry it safely back t' earth...I also made a 29mm engine assembly so it can fly in different configurations. Avast! Begad! Blimey! Each o' t' engine assemblies also features an eyebolt t' attach it t' t' shock cord. Avast! They were constructed with wood glue, shiver me timbers, as opposed t' epoxy.

This would be t' battery bay, me hearties, it will fit all t' batteries I want, along with t' perfectFlight Timer, with loads o' room t' spare. Blimey! Blimey! This is inserted in t' top o' t' airframe, me hearties, and held in with a piece o' coupler (glued inside), and secured on t' other side by t' NC, arrr, which is held on with 2 screws for flight. Aye aye! You may notice, shiver me timbers, me hearties, thar is an eyebolt attached, arrr, as this is where t' shock cord is attached t' t' rocket.

There was really no need for t' bulkhead on top, but who knows..I wouldn't want t' batteries t' be able to leap up into t' NC anyway...

This would be t' inside o' t' airframe. Avast! Notice t' couplers, me hearties, one basically acts as a thrust ring, while the other keeps t' battery bay in t' airframe.

MMMM Fillets...the airframe be roughed up quite a bit prior t' applyin' t' epoxy.

T' bottom was removed from t' NC t' provide a little more room.

Just after bein' primed, t' rocket took on a little damage, me hearties, a la kidsamine... Begad! All better now...

All ready t' go, shiver me timbers, also in t' picture is a 29mm motor mount, me hearties, so t' sustainer can fly on it's own..

This would be t' 29mm Motor mount all by it's lonesome. Begad! All o' t' wood and paper parts were bonded with wood glue, matey, as opposed t' epoxy.

Flight Report
Welcome t' Canada! Blimey! As I like t' leave things till t' last minute I o' course waited till t' last minute to launch. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Guess which area had a snow storm? Well, I ended up launchin' by myself, as I don't like t' take t' little ones when thar be a chance someone could get a new hat. Aye aye! Blimey! T' Snow didn't help any, or t' cold... 3 D12-3s powered the booster, arrr, and a D12-5 in t' sustainer. Ahoy! Blimey! Well, me hearties, blow me down! Blimey! T' SCARE launched slower than I expected, likely due t' t' fairly draggy design, arrr, ya bilge rat, but went in a relatively straight on t' way up. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! Separation was clean, and t' sustainer lit with t' help of the perfectflight timer. Begad! Blimey! It continued t' apogee, and nose over t' start t' trip down. Begad! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! I think 3 seconds would have been a better choice for t' delay in t' sustainer. Aye aye! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! T' flight was higher than I anticipated, shiver me timbers, it sure seemed t' be way in excess o' t' 500 feet estimated by Rocksim. Hindsight bein' 20/20, me hearties, a chute o' a color other than white may have been a good idea. I hope when t' snow melts, arrr, I can recover at least t' airframe, ya bilge rat, ya bilge rat, as I am sure that by then t' rest of t' rocket will be junk... Well, blow me down! Blimey! Booster-GONE Sustainer-GONE On t' bright side, no CATO! Blimey! Woohoo! Blimey!
