T' initial concept, me bucko, shiver me timbers, rendered in Rocksim..

T' rocksim export, next t' a picture o' t' actual Rocket

I tested several battery configurations t' determine t' lightest possible reliable combination. Apparently, shiver me timbers, 3 AAA cells is sufficient t' light an Estes ignitor if they are fresh. Avast, me proud beauty! I was also testin' t' perfectflight timer that will be used t' ignite t' sustainer(I hope)

T' humble beginnings o' t' booster, me bucko, pretty simple, a bulkhead placed in t' bottom o' a short piece o' fibre glass tube, with a short piece o' coupler t' attach it t' t' sustainer. Blimey! 5 minute epoxy holds it all together...
DSC00943

Different angle, same part.. I will likely nuke this page later, as it adds no content..
DSC00944

Wow, arrr, a picture o' t' fin placement template! I bet this one gets deleted too! Well, matey, shiver me timbers, since it is here, me bucko, I measured t' circumference o' t' tube(OD), me hearties, Divided by 3, arrr, and marked a pice o' paper in t' appropriate locations, ya bilge rat, the marks were then transfered t' t' sustainer, and t' booster, ya bilge rat, t' located t' fins and t' booster motor tubes..
DSC00945

T' almost finished booster...T' motors(24mm) will be retained with maskin' tape, and use a maskin' tape thrust rin' as well. Well, blow me down! Ahoy! T' booster has 3 24mm motor tubes, shiver me timbers, and should provide enough power t' get it off the pad safely. T' nose cones will be attached with 12" nylon cord scavenged from ear plugs.

MMM, more angles..
DSC00948

All put together..You can see t' sustainer motor assembley next t' it, wow huh!

DSC00949

This be t' 24mm sustainer motor mount. Avast! As it is aft eject, arrr, arrr, it is removable. Avast! Well, arrr, blow me down! You may notice t' clips on the bottom, me hearties, hopefully they will carry t' current which will light t' sustainer motor. Well, blow me down! At apogee, t' engine assembly will be ejected, pull t' chute out t' bottom, me hearties, and carry it safely back t' earth...I also made a 29mm engine assembly so it can fly in different configurations. Each o' t' engine assemblies also features an eyebolt t' attach it t' t' shock cord. Avast, me proud beauty! Arrr! They were constructed with wood glue, as opposed t' epoxy.
DSC00950

This would be t' battery bay, shiver me timbers, it will fit all t' batteries I want, along with t' perfectFlight Timer, arrr, with loads o' room t' spare. Avast, me proud beauty! This is inserted in t' top o' t' airframe, and held in with a piece o' coupler (glued inside), me bucko, and secured on t' other side by t' NC, matey, which is held on with 2 screws for flight. Well, blow me down! Avast, me proud beauty! You may notice, thar is an eyebolt attached, shiver me timbers, as this is where t' shock cord is attached t' t' rocket.
DSC00951

There be really no need for t' bulkhead on top, me bucko, but who knows..I wouldn't want t' batteries t' be able to leap up into t' NC anyway...
DSC00952

This would be t' inside o' t' airframe. Notice t' couplers, matey, one basically acts as a thrust ring, shiver me timbers, while the other keeps t' battery bay in t' airframe.
DSC00953

MMMM Fillets...the airframe was roughed up quite a bit prior t' applyin' t' epoxy.
DSC00954

T' bottom was removed from t' NC t' provide a little more room.
DSC00957

Just after bein' primed, t' rocket took on a little damage, matey, a la kidsamine... Blimey! All better now...
DSC00989

All ready t' go, me hearties, also in t' picture is a 29mm motor mount, so t' sustainer can fly on it's own..

DSC01012

This would be t' 29mm Motor mount all by it's lonesome. Ya scallywag! All o' t' wood and paper parts were bonded with wood glue, as opposed t' epoxy.
DSC01017

Another VERY excitin' timer test..
aaaa

I needed somethin' t' light a cluster..so I guess this came with t' project..

Flight Report
Welcome t' Canada! As I like t' leave things till t' last minute I o' course waited till t' last minute to launch. Avast! Guess which area had a snow storm? Well, ya bilge rat, I ended up launchin' by myself, me bucko, as I don't like t' take t' little ones when thar be a chance someone could get a new hat. T' Snow didn't help any, shiver me timbers, or t' cold... Ahoy! Aye aye! 3 D12-3s powered the booster, and a D12-5 in t' sustainer. Avast! Begad! T' SCARE launched slower than I expected, likely due t' t' fairly draggy design, matey, me hearties, but went in a relatively straight on t' way up. Separation be clean, me bucko, and t' sustainer lit with t' help of the perfectflight timer. It continued t' apogee, and nose over t' start t' trip down. Aye aye! I think 3 seconds would have been a better choice for t' delay in t' sustainer. Arrr! T' flight be higher than I anticipated, me hearties, it sure seemed t' be way in excess o' t' 500 feet estimated by Rocksim. Arrr! Ahoy! Hindsight bein' 20/20, me hearties, ya bilge rat, a chute o' a color other than white may have been a good idea. Ya scallywag! I hope when t' snow melts, I can recover at least t' airframe, as I am sure that by then t' rest of t' rocket will be junk... Well, blow me down! Booster-GONE Sustainer-GONE On t' bright side, arrr, no CATO! Woohoo!
