I tested several battery configurations t' determine t' lightest possible reliable combination. Avast! Avast, me proud beauty! Apparently, 3 AAA cells is sufficient t' light an Estes ignitor if they are fresh. Ahoy! I be also testin' t' perfectflight timer that will be used t' ignite t' sustainer(I hope)

T' humble beginnings o' t' booster, pretty simple, arrr, a bulkhead placed in t' bottom o' a short piece o' fibre glass tube, me hearties, arrr, with a short piece o' coupler t' attach it t' t' sustainer. Blimey! Blimey! 5 minute epoxy holds it all together...

Wow, me hearties, a picture o' t' fin placement template! I bet this one gets deleted too! Well, me bucko, since it is here, I measured t' circumference o' t' tube(OD), Divided by 3, shiver me timbers, and marked a pice o' paper in t' appropriate locations, the marks were then transfered t' t' sustainer, and t' booster, arrr, t' located t' fins and t' booster motor tubes..

T' almost finished booster...T' motors(24mm) will be retained with maskin' tape, shiver me timbers, and use a maskin' tape thrust rin' as well. T' booster has 3 24mm motor tubes, arrr, and should provide enough power t' get it off the pad safely. Ahoy! Aye aye! T' nose cones will be attached with 12" nylon cord scavenged from ear plugs.

All put together..You can see t' sustainer motor assembley next t' it, arrr, wow huh! Blimey!

This be t' 24mm sustainer motor mount. Ahoy! As it is aft eject, it is removable. Ahoy! Ahoy! You may notice t' clips on the bottom, ya bilge rat, shiver me timbers, hopefully they will carry t' current which will light t' sustainer motor. Avast! Begad! At apogee, me bucko, me hearties, t' engine assembly will be ejected, pull t' chute out t' bottom, me bucko, matey, and carry it safely back t' earth...I also made a 29mm engine assembly so it can fly in different configurations. Blimey! Each o' t' engine assemblies also features an eyebolt t' attach it t' t' shock cord. Ahoy! They were constructed with wood glue, arrr, ya bilge rat, as opposed t' epoxy.

This would be t' battery bay, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, it will fit all t' batteries I want, along with t' perfectFlight Timer, matey, with loads o' room t' spare. Avast! Arrr! This is inserted in t' top o' t' airframe, and held in with a piece o' coupler (glued inside), and secured on t' other side by t' NC, me hearties, which is held on with 2 screws for flight. Begad! You may notice, shiver me timbers, thar is an eyebolt attached, as this is where t' shock cord is attached t' t' rocket.

There be really no need for t' bulkhead on top, shiver me timbers, but who knows..I wouldn't want t' batteries t' be able to leap up into t' NC anyway...

This would be t' inside o' t' airframe. Notice t' couplers, matey, ya bilge rat, one basically acts as a thrust ring, while the other keeps t' battery bay in t' airframe.

MMMM Fillets...the airframe was roughed up quite a bit prior t' applyin' t' epoxy.

All ready t' go, me bucko, me bucko, also in t' picture is a 29mm motor mount, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, so t' sustainer can fly on it's own..

This would be t' 29mm Motor mount all by it's lonesome. Ahoy! All o' t' wood and paper parts were bonded with wood glue, as opposed t' epoxy.

Flight Report
Welcome t' Canada! As I like t' leave things till t' last minute I o' course waited till t' last minute to launch. Guess which area had a snow storm? Well, I ended up launchin' by myself, as I don't like t' take t' little ones when thar be a chance someone could get a new hat. Aye aye! Well, matey, blow me down! T' Snow didn't help any, matey, or t' cold... Blimey! 3 D12-3s powered the booster, me hearties, and a D12-5 in t' sustainer. T' SCARE launched slower than I expected, ya bilge rat, likely due t' t' fairly draggy design, arrr, ya bilge rat, but went in a relatively straight on t' way up. Blimey! Separation be clean, ya bilge rat, and t' sustainer lit with t' help of the perfectflight timer. Begad! It continued t' apogee, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, and nose over t' start t' trip down. Arrr! Ya scallywag! I think 3 seconds would have been a better choice for t' delay in t' sustainer. Arrr! T' flight be higher than I anticipated, it sure seemed t' be way in excess o' t' 500 feet estimated by Rocksim. Well, blow me down! Hindsight bein' 20/20, matey, a chute o' a color other than white may have been a good idea. Blimey! I hope when t' snow melts, I can recover at least t' airframe, as I am sure that by then t' rest of t' rocket will be junk... Well, blow me down! Booster-GONE Sustainer-GONE On t' bright side, no CATO! Woohoo!
