T' initial concept, rendered in Rocksim..

T' rocksim export, next t' a picture o' t' actual Rocket

I tested several battery configurations t' determine t' lightest possible reliable combination. Aye aye! Arrr! Apparently, 3 AAA cells is sufficient t' light an Estes ignitor if they are fresh. Ya scallywag! I was also testin' t' perfectflight timer that will be used t' ignite t' sustainer(I hope)

T' humble beginnings o' t' booster, me bucko, pretty simple, me hearties, a bulkhead placed in t' bottom o' a short piece o' fibre glass tube, me bucko, me hearties, with a short piece o' coupler t' attach it t' t' sustainer. Avast, me bucko, me proud beauty! Blimey! 5 minute epoxy holds it all together...

Wow, matey, a picture o' t' fin placement template! I bet this one gets deleted too! Well, since it is here, I measured t' circumference o' t' tube(OD), ya bilge rat, Divided by 3, arrr, and marked a pice o' paper in t' appropriate locations, the marks were then transfered t' t' sustainer, and t' booster, t' located t' fins and t' booster motor tubes..

T' almost finished booster...T' motors(24mm) will be retained with maskin' tape, and use a maskin' tape thrust rin' as well. Aye aye! T' booster has 3 24mm motor tubes, and should provide enough power t' get it off the pad safely. Aye aye! T' nose cones will be attached with 12" nylon cord scavenged from ear plugs.

All put together..You can see t' sustainer motor assembley next t' it, arrr, matey, wow huh! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey!

This be t' 24mm sustainer motor mount. Ya scallywag! Blimey! As it is aft eject, shiver me timbers, matey, it is removable. You may notice t' clips on the bottom, matey, matey, hopefully they will carry t' current which will light t' sustainer motor. Begad! Blimey! At apogee, shiver me timbers, me hearties, arrr, t' engine assembly will be ejected, me hearties, pull t' chute out t' bottom, and carry it safely back t' earth...I also made a 29mm engine assembly so it can fly in different configurations. Begad! Arrr! Blimey! Each o' t' engine assemblies also features an eyebolt t' attach it t' t' shock cord. Well, blow me down! They were constructed with wood glue, matey, as opposed t' epoxy.

This would be t' battery bay, matey, it will fit all t' batteries I want, along with t' perfectFlight Timer, arrr, with loads o' room t' spare. Aye aye! This is inserted in t' top o' t' airframe, me bucko, arrr, and held in with a piece o' coupler (glued inside), and secured on t' other side by t' NC, me bucko, which is held on with 2 screws for flight. Ahoy! You may notice, me bucko, me bucko, shiver me timbers, thar is an eyebolt attached, as this is where t' shock cord is attached t' t' rocket.

There was really no need for t' bulkhead on top, arrr, but who knows..I wouldn't want t' batteries t' be able to leap up into t' NC anyway...

This would be t' inside o' t' airframe. Ahoy! Arrr! Notice t' couplers, me bucko, me bucko, matey, one basically acts as a thrust ring, while the other keeps t' battery bay in t' airframe.

MMMM Fillets...the airframe be roughed up quite a bit prior t' applyin' t' epoxy.

T' bottom be removed from t' NC t' provide a little more room.

Just after bein' primed, me hearties, t' rocket took on a little damage, a la kidsamine... Well, blow me down! Arrr! All better now...

All ready t' go, also in t' picture is a 29mm motor mount, so t' sustainer can fly on it's own..

This would be t' 29mm Motor mount all by it's lonesome. All o' t' wood and paper parts were bonded with wood glue, as opposed t' epoxy.

I needed somethin' t' light a cluster..so I guess this came with t' project..

Flight Report
Welcome t' Canada! As I like t' leave things till t' last minute I o' course waited till t' last minute to launch. Arrr! Guess which area had a snow storm? Well, arrr, I ended up launchin' by myself, matey, arrr, as I don't like t' take t' little ones when thar be a chance someone could get a new hat. Ahoy! T' Snow didn't help any, matey, or t' cold... Arrr! 3 D12-3s powered the booster, ya bilge rat, and a D12-5 in t' sustainer. Begad! T' SCARE launched slower than I expected, likely due t' t' fairly draggy design, but went in a relatively straight on t' way up. Separation be clean, and t' sustainer lit with t' help of the perfectflight timer. Avast! It continued t' apogee, me hearties, me hearties, and nose over t' start t' trip down. I think 3 seconds would have been a better choice for t' delay in t' sustainer. Blimey! T' flight was higher than I anticipated, shiver me timbers, it sure seemed t' be way in excess o' t' 500 feet estimated by Rocksim. Aye aye! Avast, me proud beauty! Hindsight bein' 20/20, shiver me timbers, a chute o' a color other than white may have been a good idea. Begad! I hope when t' snow melts, ya bilge rat, I can recover at least t' airframe, as I am sure that by then t' rest of t' rocket will be junk... Ahoy! Booster-GONE Sustainer-GONE On t' bright side, arrr, me bucko, no CATO! Woohoo!
