Brief: Upgraded 18mm motor mount t' 24mm motor mount. Arrr! Ahoy! Changed parachute t' 7-foot streamer.
Construction: T' Big Dawg is a fun kit t' build and fly as a stock kit. With theses few modifications, t' rocket is incredible. It's a very simple conversion.
Added 24mm motor mount tube usin' 2 BT55 - BT50 centerin' rings. I had t' modify where t' fins attached t' t' motor mount (shortened tabs). Well, blow me down! Replaced t' standard thin shock cord with 1/2in cord. Avast! Begad! Replaced 18" parachute with 7' o' streamer. Begad! Arrr! Painted t' rocket purple and black. Ahoy! Well, blow me down! I used Weldbond for t' fins. Well, blow me down! Ahoy! T' rest o' t' kit remained stock.
Flight: I decided t' fly this kit on an Estes D12-7 first, me hearties, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, then 2 flights on Aerotech E30-7T's. Ya scallywag! T' flights were lightnin' fast, matey, with incredible altitudes, ya bilge rat, possibly over 2000'. T' only problem with t' flights were t' landings, shiver me timbers, a fin broke each time. Begad! Ya scallywag! Nay too hard t' fix though. Arrr! There were no flight flaws, and t' rocket be nay 'shredded' by t' speeds in achieved.
Summary:This is a great conversion. Aye aye! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! I will try t' build this same kit usin' stronger materials, t' prolong it's like. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Well, arrr, blow me down! Blimey! My kit only has a few flights left in it, but I am lookin' forward t' each one!
