Estes, me hearties, t' long time leader, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Ahoy! Begad! . Ya scallywag! . Quark. Aye aye! Quark is mini-engine, shiver me timbers, featherweight, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, matey, instructions and decals. You will need a hobby knife, matey, shiver me timbers, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. Ya scallywag! T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow. Aye aye! Blimey!
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. Ya scallywag! T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Once all cut, me hearties, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Although thar are many techniques for this, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Avast, me proud beauty! Arrr! Blimey! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Well, blow me down! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! ![[Picture]](images/archive/images_est/rp_est_quark.jpg)
Once t' fins are ready, construction is a snap, ya bilge rat, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Four fins, arrr, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, a hollow, shiver me timbers, me hearties, shiver me timbers, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . . Well, blow me down! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! . Begad! Blimey! done. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, and this mini was ready for light sandin' and painting.
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. Blimey! Ya scallywag! There are seven decals, me bucko, excludin' t' Estes logo, shiver me timbers, arrr, matey, that are self adhesive. Begad! Well, matey, blow me down! Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! If too high on t' body, me bucko, shiver me timbers, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone. Avast! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey!
When finished, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. 7", me bucko, me bucko, as opposed t' t' 5. Avast! 2" indicated in t' catalog. Begad! Begad!
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Well, ya bilge rat, blow me down! Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), because it's small and very hard t' track. My first flight was on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . Begad! Ahoy! . . and stayed that way. Begad! Ahoy!
I have since added a comparison on Mini Tumble-Recovery Rockets - See Here.
A mini rocket. Flight Went up so high that I couldn't find it. Can't see the flight at all. Flight Rating: 1
