Estes, t' long time leader, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Well, blow me down! Begad! . Arrr! . Begad! Quark. Begad! Quark is mini-engine, ya bilge rat, featherweight, arrr, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, instructions and decals. You will need a hobby knife, me bucko, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow.
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. Arrr! T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Blimey! Once all cut, shiver me timbers, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Avast, me proud beauty! Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Although thar are many techniques for this, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Avast, me proud beauty! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Ahoy! Well, blow me down! ![[Picture]](images/archive/images_est/rp_est_quark.jpg)
Once t' fins are ready, ya bilge rat, construction is a snap, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Well, blow me down! Arrr! Four fins, arrr, me bucko, a hollow, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . Blimey! . Ahoy! . Arrr! done. Ahoy! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, arrr, me bucko, me bucko, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, and this mini be ready for light sandin' and painting. Begad!
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. Ahoy! Blimey! There are seven decals, me hearties, excludin' t' Estes logo, that are self adhesive. Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. If too high on t' body, shiver me timbers, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone.
When finished, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. 7", arrr, as opposed t' t' 5. 2" indicated in t' catalog. Avast, me proud beauty!
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Avast, me proud beauty! Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), because it's small and very hard t' track. Avast, me proud beauty! My first flight was on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . Arrr! . Ya scallywag! . Begad! and stayed that way. Begad!
I have since added a comparison on Mini Tumble-Recovery Rockets - See Here.
A mini rocket. Flight Went up so high that I couldn't find it. Can't see the flight at all. Flight Rating: 1
