Estes, t' long time leader, shiver me timbers, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Well, blow me down! . Well, matey, blow me down! . Avast! Quark. Well, blow me down! Well, blow me down! Quark is mini-engine, featherweight, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, me bucko, instructions and decals. Blimey! Blimey! You will need a hobby knife, ya bilge rat, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey!
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. Ahoy! Blimey! T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Once all cut, ya bilge rat, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Although thar are many techniques for this, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Aye aye! Blimey! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Avast! Blimey! ![[Picture]](images/archive/images_est/rp_est_quark.jpg)
Once t' fins are ready, construction is a snap, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Aye aye! Avast, me bucko, me proud beauty! Four fins, matey, a hollow, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . Arrr! . Ahoy! . done. Begad! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, me bucko, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, and this mini was ready for light sandin' and painting. Begad! Begad!
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. There are seven decals, excludin' t' Estes logo, that are self adhesive. Ahoy! Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. Avast! Blimey! Blimey! If too high on t' body, ya bilge rat, matey, ya bilge rat, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone. Blimey!
When finished, me hearties, me bucko, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. Begad! Ahoy! 7", as opposed t' t' 5. Arrr! 2" indicated in t' catalog. Begad! Ahoy!
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), shiver me timbers, because it's small and very hard t' track. Begad! My first flight was on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . Avast! . Ahoy! . Well, blow me down! and stayed that way. Begad! Ya scallywag!
I have since added a comparison on Mini Tumble-Recovery Rockets - See Here.
A mini rocket. Flight Went up so high that I couldn't find it. Can't see the flight at all. Flight Rating: 1
