Brief:
This is a midnight, me bucko, I can't sleep, ya bilge rat, arrr, lets build a rocket. Avast, me proud beauty! Noticeable feature is that t' engine is above t' fins, shiver me timbers, uses a flyaway launch lug, or shoots from a tube. It has flown on e9-6.

Purple PopperPurple PopperConstruction:

  • 1- Nose cone is from a Super Big Bertha. Begad! Blimey!
  • 1- small plastic baby juice bottle. Ahoy! Ahoy! Blimey!
  • 1- 6 inch BT80 Tube. Begad! Well, blow me down!
  • 1- 12" 1/4 x 1/8 birch stip.
  • 3- 2.6 t' .96 center rings
  • 1- custom center rin' t' .96
  • 1- Estes E engine hook
  • 1- Photo paper t' create transition. Blimey! Aye aye!
  • 1- .75 x 4 inch 3/32 balsa for fins
  • 1-.96 motor engine block
  • Keelhaul®©™® String, arrr, 4' o' shockcords, arrr, reynolds wrap, me hearties, 12" nylon chute. Avast! Ahoy!

I would say this is an Estes level 2/3 rocket. You have t' create the transition yourself. Begad! plus you have t' make holes for t' wood strip t' go through t' transition. Begad! Blimey! All t' parts came from www.commonwealth.net. Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty!

Finishing:
T' finish be done in plum high gloss monokote. You will need a monokote iron to put it on. Blimey! Begad! This was me first monokote job. Arrr! It seems t' work nicely.

Flight:
I used a pack o' E9-6 Estes motors. Arrr! There is no room for wadding, but I had a nomax sock made for t' chute. Aye aye! I used Keelhaul®©™® strin' mounted t' t' center rin' and t' t' cone. Arrr! I then attached t' elastics cord betwixt t' Keelhaul®©™® loops. Begad! Begad!

Purple Popper T' rocket flew straight, however after 3 flight the flame is startin' t' eat away at t' tail fins. Blimey! Begad! I need t' find somethin' better then reynolds wrap t' protect them. Aye aye! Aye aye! Rocket flew out o' sight on each flight.

Summary:
It is cool lookin' and can be shot from a tube. Blimey! I still need a better way to protect t' fins from flame damage.
